Single tickets can be purchased from the drivers/ conductors/ ticket machines. Strippenkaart, which covers all forms of public transportation in Amsterdam, will prove more economical, though, and can be purchased at stations, post offices, and newsstands. These tickets are stamped according to the zone-system – the number of strips depending on the distance you are traveling. Day tickets are another option, allowing you to travel in all public transportation in Amsterdam.

Taxi
Taxis can be ordered at the Taxi Central Amsterdam, (020 - 677 7777), or at any taxi rank that are spread throughout the city. Official taxis always have blue registration number plates, and the drivers have to have visible identity cards. It is advisable to ask an estimate of the price before starting your journey. It is also possible to make and agreement with the driver of the total price, but also in this case make sure the meter is on – if the final price turns out lower than the agreed price, you are only obliged to pay the meter price.
